Mining and water: social articulation, advocacy & corporate accountability around Brazil's Brumadinho tailings dam disaster.
Environmental conflicts over the management and use of water from mining projects have resulted in serious human rights violations in Latin America. In this first session, we will explore - through the lens of the Transformative Water Pact - various strategies of resistance and defense that local communities and civil society have developed to facilitate the conservation of protected areas and ensure access to justice and truth for the victims of the tragedy caused by the failure of an iron mine tailings dam in Brumadinho, Brazil.
